NIU Athletic Communications Internship (2024-2026)

It has been a privilege working for NIU Athletic Communications, as an intern, I am responsible for creating interesting and eye-catching content for a number of sports teams here at the university. The works shown here are from my spring semester of 2025 with the program. In my time here, I have been able to familiarize myself even more with Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and Lightroom while also acquiring more knowledge in layout creation, typographic styles, and branding guidelines. 

This collection of graphics was brought to me with the task of finding ways to make creative content layouts. Following brand guidelines was simple because of the array of graphic elements provided. My job was to take a survey of previous works and look at how I can make them better while still achieving the same brand Identity. 

Graphic Assets 

The graphic assets I carried in my array for the design start with NIU`s standard typeface, (League Gotham). From there, following the brand guidelines was simple, as the amount of photography and graphic elements was more than enough. Given the aspect ratio of the social media platform "Instagram", as I formulate my layouts, one thing I keep in mind is how I can manage to design something for the aspect ratio given. Gaining experience in designing for ratios such as 1:1 and 4:5 has propelled me as a designer.
